Logbook Entry 206: Dawn of the Computer

This chapter contains one of my favorite characters in the series making their comeback, so this was such a great chapter to start out the week.

Yuzuriha is still conscious within the stone, a very interesting detail. The first time the petrification wave hit everyone, her consciousness faded like 99% of the human population. This time, we see her thoughts inside the stone casing. She is also aware of how much time has passed -- eight years. Unlike Taiju, who’s thoughts initially were about confessing to Yuzuriha, her thoughts seem to be more generalized. She thinks about Senku, Taiju, and everyone else who they met along the way.

Just then, Taiju’s group arrives at America. Everyone in the castle is quickly depetrified, and Yuzuriha gives Taiju a big hug. Taiju himself was going for a handshake, which is how they reunited with each other on Treasure Island when depetrified. But Yuzuriha has other ideas, which is a neat way to show their romantic progression (Once again)

Ukyo, then Luna, take turns explaining the situation to the American colony members. Gen compared Ukyo to Brody once before, so it feels fitting that the two have finally met face to face.

As for Luna, her job was to mediate between the two sides, a fact we learned before in chapter 201. She handles this job well, so it was nice seeing that little aspect of her character come full circle here.

Once the explanations are out of the way, the group quickly learn that Senku and part of the group are in India. Of course, making a computer is a revelation that would stun anyone in the Stone World.

Back to India, and we see Sai happily eating his curry this time. Last chapter, he was depressed about the lack of a computer in the Stone World, so he refused to touch his food. But this chapter, he is visibly excited about the prospect of building a computer.

Senku then tells Yuzuriha that their job, like before, is to establish Corn City. However, they will just not be reviving people for fun. They need the labor force of the revived people to make 200,000 parametrons. Just like what they did in Spain when they revived the natives to help them unearth fluorite.

But in Spain, the incentive for the people helping was churros. And the rest of Francois’s exotic cooking. What will be the incentive for the revived people helping in America? It makes you look forward to Corn City being established.

The ending bit of this chapter bears a lot of similarities with the first time Senku’s group left America. Back then, they were parting on a sad note, since they were leaving half of the group behind. This time, they are reuniting, so everyone is visibly happy. Also, the Americans are on board as allies now, so there is no immediate risk of an enemy. At least…. not yet….

The switch of perspective to Corn City was a bit unexpected, but very welcome. Happy to have Yuzuriha back, and Yuzu-Taiju interactions are always welcome. As the Kingdom of Science B group goes about establishing Corn City for good this time, I do hope we get to see more and more of the group members interacting. There is a lot of potential for interactions with that group currently. Magma and Yo arguing over who has grown the most maize. King farmer Taiju showing us his farming prowess again. A Hyoga-Homura reunion, and how they will fit into the current dynamics. So much to see, so the manga’s return on the 22nd of this month will be very hype.

Trivia:

- Joel’s left arm is not shown in the chapter. The last time we saw it, it was crushed under the Medusa. While it might have obviously been reattached before being revived, it does make you wonder if he will go back to working on the Medusa. He is the only person around now who knows how to work on the device, after all. The immortality reveal might mean that Senku forbids all research on the device. Until further notice, at least.

- However, people might get sick in Corn City. Nikki theorized this once before, meaning the Medusa might be needed? We also do not see the device in this chapter at all. Or the large safe in which it was stored in. Currently, the story is in a crafting stage, so we might not get any Medusa mechanics soon.

- The Mobile Lab is back! Just like the Perseus, they seem to have constructed a brand new one.

-The KOS flag has also been set up this chapter, which is a habit they have done in every major city they have come across in the story.
