Senku’s character in chapter 180 shows different sides of his personality, along with one interesting change.
When talking about the dangers of the Amazon, he displays his sense for morbid realism.
Like when he considered the fact him and Chrome might both die when acquiring Sulfuric acid.
The part where he quizzes the group about the most dangerous animal lurking in the Amazon rain forest displays his inquisitive tendencies. He did something similar when he questioned Taiju and Tsukasa about what the most essential thing is in the Stone World.
Also, when he asks Chrome about what happens when you put gold in a candy making machine.
And now, the interesting change I mentioned earlier. When they come across the mountain of Medusas, Senku’s reaction is one of utter shock. He admitted earlier in the story that he is a simple boy who gets excited by Science. When he first saw the plane Stanley was in, he was visibly amazed.
This is a rather interesting take when you consider that up till now, nothing Why Man has done has spooked him. In fact, when they first made contact, Senku relished the chance to challenge him face to face.
Though I have to say, these reactions do go a long way towards making Senku feel more fleshed out as a character. His usual demeanor tends to be smug, relaxed, or confident. Seeing him display other emotions makes his character refreshing to follow, even after 180 chapters of the story have passed.
